SDI Rescue Diver — Awareness, Leadership, and Response
The SDI Rescue Diver Course is designed to develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills required to respond effectively in dive emergencies. From recognizing early stress signals to managing a full accident scene, this course prepares you to act with structure instead of panic.
Rescue training is about prevention first. You’ll learn to identify developing problems early, reduce risk through proactive decisions, and intervene appropriately before minor issues escalate into major incidents.
- Self-rescue and stress management skills
- Recognition and calming of distressed divers
- Effective buddy rescue techniques
- Search patterns for missing divers
- Accident scene management and coordination
- Administration of first aid and oxygen (O2) where permitted
- Certified Open Water divers expanding their skill set
- Advanced divers progressing in training

- Anyone considering the professional pathway
- Certified Open Water Diver or equivalent
- Current CPR certification
- Current First Aid certification
- Current Oxygen (O2) Provider certification (where local law permits)
This course includes The Essentials in Human Factors, strengthening situational awareness, communication, and decision-making under pressure. These skills elevate not only your rescue response, but your everyday diving performance.
After successful completion, you may continue toward the SDI Master Scuba Diver Development Program or begin the professional pathway with the SDI Divemaster Course.
